Certaldo

July is the best month to visit Certaldo: Mercantia, an international street theater festival, takes place for five days, with shows, music and artistic craftsmanship. In September, a traditional historical re-enactment takes place inspired by the tales of Boccaccio's Decameron.

Medieval village among the most evocative of Tuscany and Val D'Elsa, it has preserved a magical atmosphere of times gone by. Certaldo is famous for being the birthplace of Giovanni Boccaccio and is the Orange Flag of the Touring Club Italia, recognition for places that stand out for their tourist offer, eno gastronomic, cultural and environmental. The historic center of Certaldo Alta is entirely pedestrian and can be reached by car, on foot along an ancient medieval road or by funicular.
